Morning routine

I haven't had the chance to chat much about parenting and my kids online, and it certainly is a topic that I care a lot about.
Our recent big success has been implementing a set morning routine. In the past the TV went on as soon as our youngest was up, and the boys would have breakfast by the TV after they had showered and dressed. It was regularly a drag getting through the morning, and often a fight to get them to school. Our youngster was still crying a lot each time he was dropped off at school.

I simply decided one day that I was going to put an end to the TV in the morning, and start having breakfast with the boys around the table. I had grown up like that (we didn't have a TV, so that wasn't an issue in my childhood). Es (my wife) and I were both surprised at how easy it was to get the routine going. It isn't perfect yet, but we have been doing this for about three or four weeks now, and many things have changed. Our kids are more alert in the mornings, they are less resistant to going to school.
But there have been other changes further away. The youngster has stopped crying when going to school. They both seem more interested in school.
The most important thing is that they love the time with me in the morning. It is a chance for them to have Dad totally focused on them and they love starting the day like that.
As often happens with me, I find the right blog posts after the fact, and here is a great one I read after we had already started implementing out morning routine with the boys:
