Post Comments - Trying Intense Debate

I have been working for the last day or so (and not sleeping at nigh worrying about it) to get a system working with email notification, run through Django.  It is possible, and clever people would find it quite easy, but I am struggling.  I asked on Stack Overflow how to do it, and didn't get any answer.  I was trying to use the signal system, and I am sure it could work, but I just don't want to waste the time.

The trouble with that kind of thing is that I have to work in the back-end of the Django code running the site, it doesn't help I can get it running on my own system.

So, I'm doing what I really didn't want to do, I'm going with a third party installation.  I really didn't want to do that on this site because I wanted to keep the blog light and fast, but I feel that email notification on blog posts is such a key part of a blog, that I'll go with it.

I'm going with IntenseDebate.  Why, I can't really answer that.  There was this post on whether to use IntenseDebate or Disqus, but it really didn't convince me outright.

I don't really know much about either.  I just happen to have an existing account with IntenseDebate, so I'll give it a try.

If things go funny on my blog, hopefully I'll get it all working soon.  If I get things working here, I'll also use it on see-namibia.com, our business website.  This blog is more my test ground, so please bear with me.

Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.  I'm going to spend some time reading there docs and then see if it all works.

I'm not sure if it will clobber my old comments???  If it does, I'm sorry (I've only had one commenter, so better now than when I get 100 per post, right?).

The old comments will still be in my database.  Perhaps there is some way to get them back.  I've asked IntenseDebate, but I don't want to wait, I want to get on with it.  Hold thumb.

Edit:  It worked and was seriously easy to install, just some snippets of JavaScript and away you go. There is no integration with the existing database, so old comments are gone.  That is serious because I had about 100 comments per post…
