Your Input

If you are landing on this post for some reason without having spent time on the blog, please not that this idea has now resulted in a series on the blog about crafting meaningful blogs.

Over the last few days I have been fixing a few things here and there on both this blog, and I have been thinking a lot about what I want to write about on the blog.  One thing is clear (as I write this, there are only three subscribers), switching wildly from topic to topic isn't good for maintaining readership, or at least not subscribers.

Much as I wanted to write about me (it gets boring even to me) and my interests, and didn't want to care to much about who read or who doesn't, well - I can't do that. I am interested in building the blog up a bit and having a bit of interest develop around it.

What should I cover

Some of my interests would be just plain useless to start with.  If I wrote about aviation or guitar playing, I would run out of things to say right away.  If, on the other hand, I write about Django, Python and my experience of developing a blog, I am sure that there will be more readers, but I am not sure that what I have to say in that line of topics is very valuable.

I'm also not to keen to talk about nature here - mostly because I have done that, and continue to do that, elsewhere.

I did think about providing RSS feeds by category, which would be easy to implement and then you could just follow what you were interested in, but I think that I want to get focused - if only just for me.  I want an idea to develop.

What do you want me to write about

Have a look at the about page - and let me know your thoughts in the comments.

If I have a decisively "bloggy" topic to get my teeth into, I'll probably try to monetize the blog if I build up enough traffic, but that will not happen until I have at least 100 subscribers.  It may seem like a long way from where I am now, but http://frantic-naturalist.blogspot.com/ was build up rather rapidly and I know that it can be done.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you personally would like to read about on this blog.  Would you like more tutorials and less blogging - say an html or css tutorial or Javascript?  I always want to remain personal and still take a light hearted approach to writing this stuff, but I need some focus and I want to give you the chance for input.

Change direction

I'm going to Swakopmund for the weekend and have lots of work to fix stuff on here and new posts to write for See Namibia, so I'm not going to post for a while, so hopefully there will be some input.

If this is your first time on the site, please feel free to chip in - at least say what you may have expected to read about on here.

Thanks!
